Loneliness Awareness Week raises awareness of loneliness and empowers everyone to make connections.
The theme for 2024 is Random Acts of Connection. It encourages people to increase those simple, everyday moments of connection which help us feel happier and less lonely.
Making connections can be easier said than done for those that are housebound or isolated in their local communities. Many rely on their pet for companionship, interaction, their daily routine and to help support and manage long-term health issues.
If poor health means that you can no longer look after a companion pet, this can compound feelings of stress and anxiety. At this stage people often consider ‘giving-up’ their much loved pet because they no longer feel that they can give them the life they deserve. The result of this can be catastrophic on a person’s well-being and making them feel more alone and isolated than ever before.
That’s where Rosie’s Trust can step in and support people to look after their companion pets with daily walking and exercise. Our volunteers, in teams, make daily visits walking dogs and checking in on cats, as well as helping provide other essential pet care to make sure that a much loved pet remains well cared for.
Our volunteers are also often the only social interaction a person we support will get in a day, making what we do so important in helping reduce loneliness.
We’re here for people undergoing cancer treatment, end of life care and older people with mobility issues. You can help support our work this Loneliness Awareness week by
making a donation so that we can keep people and their pets together.
