As this time of year can be difficult for many people in our local community, Rosie’s Trust has come up with some top tips to help you spread a little joy.
While it’s a wonderful time to celebrate with family, friends and pets, the Christmas period can also be a very challenging and lonely for those facing illness and difficult times.
However, a little goes a long way, and Rosie’s Trust has come up with some ideas on how you can reach out to those in our community who may need a little extra support.
Here are a few simple ways to spread Christmas cheer to your neighbours and their furry friends:
Festive treats and gifts
• Christmas card: Send a card with a heartfelt message – and if it’s a festive pet-themed design, even better!
• Homemade treats: Share a plate of homemade dog biscuits, or catnip-infused treats, with your neighbours.
• Small gifts: A pet toy, cosy blanket, or gift card for a local pet store, can show you’re thinking of your neighbour and their pet.
Knock on the door
• Call in and say ‘hello’: Spend some time with your neighbours, especially if they are elderly and could be feeling isolated. Check they have the supplies needed for themselves and their pet over the holidays, including food and medication.
• Walk a dog: If you see a neighbour struggling to walk their dog, you could offer to take them for a walk once or twice a week to support.
• Pet sitting: Offer to pet-sit for your neighbour if they struggle to get to the shops, or appointments, as they are worried about leaving their pet alone.
Give a little
• Donate: Instead of a Christmas present, ask a friend to consider making a donation to Rosie’s Trust, or another charity that is making a difference in Northern Ireland.
• Volunteer: Sign-up to support Rosie’s Trust, whether it’s walking dogs or raising funds at an event, we will have lots of different opportunities in 2025, with something to suit everyone.
• Raise awareness: Follow Rosie’s Trust on social media, and share our content with your family and friends to raise awareness of our charity that will be celebrating its tenth anniversary next year.
By taking these small steps, you can make a big difference in the lives of your neighbours and their pets, and help spread a little festive magic this Christmas.
Every donation makes a real difference to Rosie’s Trust. If you would like to donate to our charity, which provides free-of-charge support, 365 days a year including Christmas Day, please visit here.
